Quran-inspired Turkish film to compete at Fajr int’l filmfest

Quran-inspired Turkish film ‘Grain’ by filmmaker Semih Kaplanoğlu has been selected to compete at the 36th Fajr International Film Festival (FIFF).

Kaplanoğlu will attend this year’s FIFF, while also heading a workshop on the sidelines of the event, to take place later this month, organizers have announced.

The story of ‘Grain’ is inspired by a chapter from the Holy Quran. The tale is set in the near future, where the Earth has undergone an abrupt climate change which has led to the extinction of life.

The film garnered a prize at the Tokyo Grand Prix at the Tokyo International Film Festival in 2017.

The 36th Fajr International Film Festival will be held in the Iranian capital city of Tehran from April 19-27.
